the French president on Thursday guaranteed a symbolic image of unity of the continent in the face of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

When Macron arrived for the meeting at the Prague castle in the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, the prime minister of that country, greeted him and said, "It's a great day for you.

Participants in the summit, which intended to increase security and prosperity throughout the continent,

included Turkey and Britain in addition to current EU members and hopeful partners from the Balkans and Eastern Europe.

Along with its neighbour and ally in the conflict, Belarus, Russia was the only significant European country that was not invited.
